I was inspired by a particular best in show photograph had I found and was taken by how theatrical the photograph was in it’s composition.
It was rigid, unreal and strangely abstract as a portrait and yet the emotional dynamic between the characters provided me with a centre (which turned out to be the poodle) from which to work. This piece was the first piece in which I juxtaposed the physicality of the world I create with that of the actor within that world.
This isn’t a simple re-creation of an image, it is a way to raise questions about which form is more or less valid as a representation of something ‘real’.
